How To Send a View Once Photo on Instagram in 2026 (Step-by-Step)

Want to send a photo on Instagram that disappears forever after the other person sees it? No saving. No replaying. No trace left behind. In this guide I'll show you exactly how to do it — step by step.

📸 What is View Once?
When you send a photo using View Once, the person can only open it one time. The moment they close it — it disappears forever. They cannot open it again, they cannot save it. And if they try to screenshot it, Instagram sends you a notification.

How To Send a View Once Photo on Instagram (Step by Step)

Open the Instagram app on your Android phone.

Tap the paper plane icon at the bottom center of your screen — that is your Direct Messages icon.

Find the person you want to send the photo to and tap their name to open the chat.

Look at the bottom left corner of the chat screen. Tap the small blue camera icon — it looks like a circle with a camera symbol inside it.

Now choose your photo:
— Take a new photo — tap the large white circle button
— Use an existing photo — tap the small image icon in the bottom left to open your gallery

Once your photo is ready, look at the bottom of the screen. You'll see a button that may say Unlimited Views, View Once, or View Twice. Tap it.

A menu slides up showing three options. Tap View Once — the first option at the top of the list.

The button now shows View Once with a small clock icon. Tap the purple Send button on the right side of the screen.

✅ Your View Once photo has been sent. In your chat you'll see a purple button that says "Photo" with a clock icon — that means it's waiting to be opened.

What Happens After They Open It?

On the other person's side, they'll see a button that says View Photo. They tap it once — and the moment they close it, it is gone forever. They cannot open it again.

On your side, the Photo button will still show — but underneath it you'll see the time it was seen, like "Seen 4 minutes ago." That's the only trace left. The photo itself is completely gone.

⚠️ Screenshot alert: If the recipient tries to screenshot your View Once photo, Instagram will notify you immediately.
